Council of Handicrafts Development Corporations (COHANDS) was established in the year 1983-84 under the aegis of Govt .of India, Ministry of Textiles, Office of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts). COHANDS is an apex body of 29 State /Central Govt. Handicrafts Development Corporations with its well-knit members throughout the country. COHANDS assists grass-root level organizations, NGOs, Self Help Groups and small entrepreneurs engaged in handicrafts for promotion of handicrafts.

COHANDS vision is to :

  • Enhance and adapt skill through design interventions.
  • Enhance productivity and income through technical upgradation.
  • Assist sustainable development and responsible working conditions
  • Assist in marketing through domestic and international channels.
  • Provide assistance and guidance for achieving better social environment.
  • Provide help and assistance in developing sound environmental regime / management.
  • Preserves and protects the intellectual rights of marginalized regions / communities.
  • Provides a forum for organizations and businesses, both national and international to interact leading to a better environment for development of crafts.

COHANDS , as a facilitator, provides necessary impetus, thrust and direction to trade but does not engage itself in trade directly .It makes concerted efforts to maintain high quality and cultural heritage and it works as a catalytic agent for promotion of handicrafts in the domestic and global markets. It preserves and protects the intellectual rights of marginalized region/communities.

  • Organizing a Thematic Exhibition for the benefit of the SC artisans in association with Embassy of India Kathmandu (Nepal) w.e.f. 25th to 30th September, 2015 at Kathmandu, Nepal

  • Organizing Gandhi Shilp Bazar of Indian handicraft products for the benefit of SC artisans from various parts of the country at Chennai during the month of September/ October, 2015

  • Organizing Gandhi Shilp Bazar of Indian handicraft products for the benefit of SC artisans from various parts of the country at Bangalore during the month of September/ October, 2015

  • Participation in Indian Handicrafts and Gift Fair (Autumn) 2015 being organized by Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts at India Expo Mart Expressway, Greater Noida w.e.f. 14.10.2015 to 18.10.2015

  • Organizing a National Handicraft Fair under title "Master Creation", 2015 exclusively for Awardees at Dilli Haat, Opp. INA, New Delhi w.e.f. 01.12.2015 to 15.12.2015

  • Organizing a National Handicraft Fair under title "Cluster Creation", 2016 exclusively for Cluster Groups of O/o DC(Handicrafts) at Dilli Haat, Opp. INA, New Delhi w.e.f. 01.02.2016 to 15.02.2016

  • Participation in Indian Handicrafts and Gift Fair (Spring) 2016 being organized by Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts at India Expo Mart Expressway, Greater Noida w.e.f. 20.02.2016 to 23.02.2016
